Navigating Challenges in Patient Encounters – for Medical Staff

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Every clinician experiences situations where patients struggle to follow recommendations, express doubts, or leave us feeling unsettled. Yet, we often receive little guidance on how to navigate these complex and challenging interactions.

Join Dr. Thea Gilks, Psychiatrist at SPH, to explore common challenges in these encounters. Dr. Gilks works in the ENT/Audiology and Complex Pain Clinics. Her practice is focused on the treatment of somatization, factitious disorder, personality dysfunction, and complex trauma.

In this talk you will:

  • Learn the role of trauma in the development of personality challenges, epistemic mistrust, and self-destructive behaviours.
  • Receive strategies for understanding and navigating complex provider-patient dynamics.
  • Reduce burnout, increase job satisfaction and ultimately, benefit your patients even more.

Join us in person in LT 1500 at SPH (beside the Cullen Theatre), or online via Zoom.

For the convenience of in-person attendees coming after work, a light dinner will be provided at 5:00 pmPlease note zoom meeting starts at 5:30 pm. Check your email for zoom details.
