SUMMARY:Altered Inheritance: The Art and Ethics of Designing Babies\, Dr. Arthur Dodek Lectureship in Medical Ethics and Professionalism
DESCRIPTION:Providence Health Care Department of Medicine Grand Rounds: \n  \n“Altered Inheritance: The Art and Ethics of Designing Babies” \nGuest Lecturer:\nFrancoise Baylis\, CM\, ONS\, FRSC\, FCAHS \n  \nFrançoise Baylis is University Research Professor at Dalhousie University. She is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia. In this grand round presentation\, “Altered Inheritance: The Art and Ethics of Designing Babies”\, Dr. Baylis will discuss some of the ideas explored in her book: “Altered Inheritance: CRISPR and the Ethics of Human Genome Editing”\, a finalist for a PROSE 2020 award. We are entering a new era of human evolution with the advent of CRISPR technology\, which allows scientists to modify our genes. This technology shows great promise for therapeutic use\, but it also raises thorny ethical\, legal\, political\, and societal concerns because it can be used to make permanent changes to future generations. Dr. Baylis is a philosopher whose innovative work in bioethics\, at the intersection of policy and practice\, has stretched the boundaries of the field.  Her work challenges us all to think broadly and deeply about the direction of health\, science and biotechnology. It aims to move the limits of mainstream bioethics and develop more effective ways to understand and tackle public policy challenges in Canada and abroad. \nLocation:  Cullen Family Lecture Theatre Level 1\, Providence Building\, St. Paul’s Hospital \n**Masks are mandatory and the theater capacity during the pandemic is of 50 people. No food will be provided due to the public health mandate. \nOR \nhttps://ubc.zoom.us/ Meeting ID: 96730 815143 | Password: 815143 \nArthur Dodek – September 9\, 2021- poster \n

SUMMARY:CST Evaluation Interviews
DESCRIPTION:The CST Evaluation team will be conducting 10 – 15 minute interviews with providers on Wednesday\, October 16  from 9am – 4pm at the Physician’s Lounge in St. Paul’s Hospital. \nThe purpose of the CST Evaluation is to answer the questions “To what extent is the CST Project achieving its goals? And why or why not?” The findings from the CST Evaluation will be used to provide information about what is working well and what is not\, and what improvements will be required as the implementation rolls out. It is also to demonstrate accountability by providing an overall assessment of the effects of having implemented the CST Project. Interviews will cover topics related to the CST “key performance indicators”\, including medication ordering and charting/documentation. Collecting baseline information on these processes will enable a pre/post comparison and help us to understand how the CST Project affects your work. If you have any questions\, please email CSTEvaluation@vch.ca. \n
