Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Listening & Learning Series: Part 1: Literacy and Foundations
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
- This event has passed.
PHC medical staff, staff, and volunteers are invited to participate in a 4 part Listening and Learning series; a virtual forum for open dialogue, to share common language and begin to address systemic racism as it is experienced at PHC and VCH, facilitated by an external DEI specialist, Alden Habacon.
Part 1, Literacy and Foundations, will:
- Provide attendees with a common literacy to have more difficult conversations about race and racism, as well as fostering a psychologically safe space for these conversations.
- Define difference between key terms such as “not being racist” and “being anti-racist”, “racial discrimination” vs “racism,” and “whiteness” and “white fragility”
Outcome: To demonstrate that we can create a psychologically safe space to hold discussions on race and racism and establish a common understanding of terms for the next three Listen and Learn series.
